What and who can we make fun of? If you're not LGBTQ you shouldn't have a right to make fun. If you're not a person of color or African American you shouldn't make fun either. Those are the unspoken rules. Or are they?
People are saying that Trans activists like me are being "soft" or too "PC" when criticizing Dave Chappelle and his Netflix series, where he made trans phobic jokes. When I do my stand up routine I spend it making fun of myself or members of my community especially being from the south because I can. I refuse to make jokes about marginalized communities or groups for which I'm not a part or member of. If I choose to do so, then the public and history would rightfully judge me harshly.
You go ahead and make fun of my community all you want Dave. Make fun of the fact that we can be fired from any job at any time because we're trans. Go ahead and make fun of the fact that 16 trans woman of color have been shot dead just for being trans in 2019. 26 trans woman of color shot dead and killed in cold blood in 2018 as well.
Go ahead and make fun of trans woman and men humiliated at airports after going through TSA screenings and getting mis-gendered by government workers. Then make fun of the expression of sadness and shame on their face when everyone around them starts laughing at them. Dave, go ahead and make fun of the trans men and woman unable to see their children because the other parent refuses to give them parental visits because they're trans.
Dave, go ahead make fun of the trans men and woman who want to blow their f*king brains out now because people like you and the United States Government are against them. All because they have A MEDICAL CONDITION!
Transphobic jokes like yours, and negative comments and actions from the Trump Administration, equal violence against trans community. My community. Stop it!
